2015 proclaimed the 'Year of Sport' in Canada

OTTAWA- Yesterday, the Harper Government proclaimed 2015 as the Year of Sport in Canada. This is an historic and wonderful announcement that underscores and celebrates the key role that sport plays in Canada. The Year of Sport is a proactive pan-Canadian initiative implemented to celebrate sport in Canada and the role it plays in enhancing the lives of Canadians from coast to coast to coast. During the year, sport events and other celebratory activities will highlight how sport benefits Canadians.

The announcement was formally made yesterday by he Right Honorable David Johnston and the Minister of State (Sport), the Honourable Bal Gosal who proclaimed 2015 as the Year of Sport in Canada.

“The Canadian Olympic Committee is thrilled to help celebrate 2015 as the Year of Sport,” said Marcel Aubut, President, Canadian Olympic Committee. “As a leading sport nation, this is a great opportunity for us to draw attention to the power of sport and how it can better the lives of all Canadians.”

2015 will be a historic year on the sporting landscape as Canada will play host to some major international events including the Pan American Games in Toronto that will see Baseball Canada’s Men’s and Women’s National Teams compete in the baseball competition.
