OTTAWA - Trevor Grieve is heading to Los Angeles.
The Canadian umpire and Oshawa, Ontario native has been selected from a pool of umpires to work the final round of the World Baseball Classic at historic Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles from March 20-22.
Grieve was assigned to work the Tokyo pool in the second round that featured host Japan, Netherlands, Israel and Cuba where he impressed officials who have since invited the Oshawa native to the event’s final round.
Grieve, the lone Canadian umpire in the WBC, is no stranger to the big stage as he was among a group of umpires to work the final round at the 2013 WBC in San Francisco, while he also worked a WBC Qualifier in 2012.
An umpire with over 25 years experience, Grieve is active in Baseball Canada’s National Umpires program as both an instructor and a supervisor at provincial and national championships.
