Montréal to host first PLAY BALL event in Canada!

OTTAWA-Baseball Canada is pleased to partner with Major League Baseball, Jays Care Foundation and Baseball Québec to bring the first ‘Play Ball’ event to Canada and Montréal on Sunday, April 2nd at the Olympic Stadium.

The PLAY BALL initiative is MLB’s collective effort to encourage young people and communities to participate in baseball- or softball-related activities, including formal leagues, events and casual forms of play.

This event in Montréal will complement the weekend of festivities surrounding the exhibition games between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

This ‘Play Ball’ clinic is aimed at youth aged 13 and under and is a free festive event where young people will have the opportunity to participate in baseball activities while having fun. Participants in Montréal will have the opportunity to meet with two baseball legends, Tim Raines and Marquis Grissom, as well as the Mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, and MLB Vice-President of Youth Programs, Tony Reagins.

Sunday’s ‘Play Ball’ event is scheduled for 9am to noon, at the Olympic Stadium in Montréal where over 300 youth are expected to participate. The event attracted so much interest among young people that all available places were filled in less than 24 hours!

"For the fourth consecutive year, we are hosting baseball clinics at the Olympic Stadium, and we are very pleased to be able to partner with Major League Baseball, Jays Care Foundation and Baseball Canada to collaborate on this event in 2017. This is yet more proof of the credibility of Baseball Québec in the eyes of influential people in the world of baseball. With partners like them, it's the young people who will be the winners, "said Maxime Lamarche, Executive Director of Baseball Québec.

"Baseball Canada is very pleased to partner with Major League Baseball, Jays Care Foundation and Baseball Québec to host the first Play Ball event on Canadian soil in the City of Montréal. Major League Baseball's support and Baseball Québec's continued efforts to develop baseball in the beautiful province will make this event a great success, "added Jason Dickson, President of Baseball Canada.
