Women's Canada/USA Series: Offence leads the way in win over USA

WASHINGTON, DC – Jenna Flannigan (Cornwall, ON) smacked three doubles and drove in three runs to lead the Women’s National Team to a 12-5 win over USA Baseball’s Women’s Development Program at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. The game was declared official due to inclement weather after play was halted in the top of the seventh.

After both teams traded runs in the first, Nicole Luchanski (Edmonton, AB) drove in her first of two runs on the day with a single to centre that brought in Kaitlyn Ross (Redcliff, AB). Luchanksi went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Ross stepped to the plate with two runners on and two out in the top of the third and delivered a double to centre that scored two to put Canada up by three before a four-run fourth provided a seven run cushion. Julia Jodouin (Sudbury, ON) contributed a two-run single while Emma Carr (Toronto, ON) added an RBI single.

Canada starter Ann-Sophie Lavallée (Boucherville, QC) allowed just one run over three innings of work to earn the win.

A double from Flannigan brought in a run in the fifth before Nikki Boyd (Surrey, BC) and Luchanski drove in runs in the sixth as Canada scored four more in the inning to go up 12-5.
