Ando, Wark shine in loss to Braves

OTTAWA-The Atlanta Braves prospects scored five runs in the sixth inning and pounded-out 13 hits en route to handing the Junior National Team a 10-0 loss as Fall Instructional League action continued at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando.

Royce Ando (Mississauga, ON) had a 2-for-3 day at the plate for the juniors, while Jackson Wark (St. Albert, AB) tossed two scoreless innings allowing only one hit and struck out two.

Starter Colton Wood (Victoria, BC) allowed two runs in the top of the first after the Braves hit three singles to bring in one run, while the other scored on a sac-fly.

A solo home run in the second made it 3-0.

Wood’s three inning outing saw him scatter six hits and strikeout two.

After Wark shut the Braves down for two innings, Tristan Clarke (Brampton, ON) came on to work the fifth inning which saw the Braves strike for five runs to break the game open.

A one-out double came around to score when outfielder’s Gareth Morgan (Toronto, ON) and JF Garon (Terrebonne, QC) collided on a fly-ball in right-centre and four more runs came into count after a hit batter, two singles and  another error.

The juniors had a chance to get on the board in the sixth as they loaded the bases with two out, but a strikeout ended the threat.

Gareth Morgan, Charles Leblanc (Laval, QC) and Mitch Bigras (Sarnia, ON) each singled for the juniors who left eight runners on base during the game.

Reliever Zach Pop (Brampton, ON) entered the game in the eighth and gave up two runs on a walk and two doubles, but came back to keep the Braves off the scoreboard with a scoreless ninth inning of work.

Pop struck out one batter.

Notes: The juniors will face the Detroit Tigers prospects tomorrow at 1pm with LHP Brad Smith (Vancouver, BC) expected to get the start.
