Aumont named Pitcher of the Week

OTTAWA – After a rough first week of the season, Phillippe Aumont (Gatineau, QC) bounced back with authority on route to earning the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honours for the week of April 19-25.

On Monday, the 6-foot-7, 255 lb right-hander struck out five while allowing one run on three hits in five innings of work, taking a tough loss. On Sunday, he tossed six no-hit innings, allowing only two walks while fanning four along the way. His dominating performance earned him his first win of the season.

In total for the week, Aumont went 1-1 with a 0.82 ERA in two starts, allowing one run on three hits over 11 innings pitched and collecting nine strikeouts.

The former Junior and Senior National Team member was part of the blockbuster trade that sent Cliff Lee to the Seattle Mariners from the Philadelphia Phillies in return for Aumont and fellow Canadian Tyson Gillies (Vancouver, BC). He is currently with the Reading Phillies, the Double-A affiliate for Philadelphia.

In four starts for Reading so far this season, Aumont is 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA in 21.2 innings pitched, allowing nine walks while striking out 14 batters.
