Baseball Canada Championships: Four more championships to begin Thursday

OTTAWA – Six down and five to go!

Four of Baseball Canada’s 11 National Championship tournaments are set to begin on Thursday, August 24th and run through Sunday, August 27th with Repentigny (QC), Summerside (PEI), Stonewall (MB) and Victoria (BC) playing host.

Here’s a look at what lies ahead!

DQ® 13U National Championships – Repentigny, Québec

Ten of the top 13U team in the county will be in Repentigny for the DQ® 13U National Championships. Defending champions Brampton did not qualify for the event but Ontario will be well represented with North York and Whitby competing. The four westernmost provinces will have representation while clubs representing Atlantic Canada hail from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Host Repentigny will be joined by Team Québec to round out the ten-team field.

15U – Summerside, PEI

For the second consecutive year, Summerside will play host to some of the top 15U talent in Canada who will compete for the Ray Carter Cup. Ontario has had a firm grasp on the gold medal having won the event the past five years and will be represented this year by Vaughan. All ten provincial associations will be represented in Summerside with host PEI playing their Maritime counterparts, New Brunswick following the opening ceremonies on Thursday.

21U Women’s Invitational – Stonewall, Manitoba

The 21U Women’s Invitational made its debut on the Baseball Canada National Championships program in 2016 and will make a stop in Stonewall, Manitoba will five teams competing for the gold medal.  Québec took the inaugural title in ’16 and they lead the five-team field that includes host Manitoba, BC, Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Men’s National – Victoria, BC

The 49th edition of the Men’s National Championships will see the event head back to the west coast for the first time since 2012 with Victoria, BC welcoming ten participating teams. A home run derby will kick off the festivities on Wednesday with participants mashing balls into the ocean off Ogden Point that will surely be a memorable event. Defending champions Tecumseh (ON) are back to defend their title.
