Baseball Canada Championships: Three more teams earn gold!

OTTAWA – This week’s three Baseball Canada Championships all came to a close on Sunday with 3 gold medals on the line. Semi-final and final games were played in Repentigny, QC, Vaughan, ON and Chatham, NB.

The host team Lanaudière and British Columbia faced off in the final after both winning their semi-final games at the 13U National Championship in Repentigny, QC. Lanaudière took gold topping British Columbia 13-3 while Ontario 3 won the bronze medal game.

Ontario outscored Québec 7-4 in Vaughan, ON at the 15U Championship to win the gold medal. PEI won bronze after beating Manitoba 7-5. The medal was PEI’s second at a National Championship in Baseball Canada history.

Ontario topped New Brunswick in the semis and Québec in the finals to win gold at the Senior Men Championship in Chatham, NB. British Columbia finished third defeating New Brunswick in the bronze medal game.

13U National Championship

Atlantic (PEI) 6 Alberta 2 – Tanner MacLean (Charlottetown, PE) struck out 6 batters over 6.1 innings allowing only 1 run to earn the win for Atlantic. Max Grant (Fredericton, NB) went 4 for 4 with a double and a triple in the game.

Ontario (ON2) 7 Saskatchewan 1 – Rowan Radzinski (Whitby, ON) and Jake Bucovetsky (Toronto, ON) both homered to contribute to the offense while Cameron Byberg (Whitby, ON) held Saskatchewan to 4 hits over 6.1 innings striking out 5.

British Columbia 5 Québec (QC1) 0 – Carlin Dick (Abbotsford, BC) put on a very impressive pitching performance striking out 12 over a complete 7 innings and limiting Québec to 3 hits in the win. Carter Clark (Coquitlam, BC) went 2 for 3 with a triple driving in a run.

Lanaudière 9 Ontario (ON3) 3 – William Lacroix (Laval, QC) went 2 for 3 with a home run driving in 2 runs in the game. Starter Benjamin Sauve (Lanaudière, QC) struck out 9 over 6.1 innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits to earn the win.

Ontario (ON1) 12 Québec (QC2) 11 – Mitchell Bratt’s (Newmarket, ON) walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th sealed the deal for Ontario. Bratt went 2 for 3 with an RBI in the game. Starter Ethan Pollard (Brampton, ON) struck out 6 over 4 innings limiting the opposition to a hit in the outing.

Ontario (ON3) 12 Québec (QC1) 1 – Jordan Spring (London, ON) limited Québec to 2 hits over 5 innings while striking out 8. Josh Niles went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs leading the team’s offensive production in the win.

Lanaudière 13 British Columbia 3 – Benjamin Sauvé (Lanaudière, QC) went 2 for 3 with 2 triples driving in 3 runs and scoring 3 times to lead the offensive production. Alexis Dubeau (Lanaudière, QC) tossed a complete 5 inning game allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2.

15U Championship

Saskatchewan 9 Alberta 5 – Nathan Halvorsen (Regina, SK) went 2 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBIs while scoring twice in the game. Nolan King (Regina, SK) earned the win limiting Alberta to 2 hits over 2.2 innings on the mound and striking out 4.

Nova Scotia 1 New Brunswick 0 – Jaden Griffin (Lower Sackville, NS) lasted 6.1 shutout innings on the mound striking out 12 and limiting the opposition to 3 hits to earn the win. Billy Laurette (Hammonds Plains, NS) was the only player to come across to score in the tight game.

Ontario 6 Manitoba 0 – Ethan Hammond (Oakville, ON) was a force to be reckoned with on the mound for Ontario. Hammond struck out 12 over 7 shutout innings limiting Manitoba to 3 hits. Owen Lalonde (Windsor, ON) went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs in the win.

Québec 13 PEI 1 – Édouard Savoie (St-Eustache, QC) went 2 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored in the game. Luis-Armando Gutierrez-Cyr (Montréal, QC) earned the win striking out 5 over 2.1 innings allowing a run on 2 hits and 3 walks.

Vaughan 9 British Columbia 5 – Adam Raponi (Woodbridge, ON) homered in the game going 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Reliever Max Musyj (Amherstburg, ON) earned the win holding BC hitless over 2 innings.

PEI 7 Manitoba 5 – Conner Jones (Charlottetown, PE) went the distance in the win striking out 7 in the outing. Chandler Laporte (Cornwall, PE) went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored contributing to PEI’s offense.

Ontario 7 Québec 4 – Noah Naylor (Mississauga, ON) went 2 for 3 driving in 4 runs for Ontario to lead the offense. Naylor also saw some action on the mound as a reliever tossing 2 shutout innings to seal the deal. Starter Ryan Douglas (Georgetown, ON) earned the win allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk over 5 innings.

Senior Men Championship

Québec 1 British Columbia 0 – Kevin Tremblay (St-Jean, QC) went 2 for 3 with a double picking up the team’s only RBI in the win. Steve Green (Acton Vale, QC) limited BC to 2 hits striking out 5 in his 6.1 shutout innings on the mound.

Ontario 12 New Brunswick 2 – Paul Lamantia (Tecumseh, ON) went 2 for 3 with a home run driving in 5 runs to lead the offense. Starter Brandon Lindquist (Tecumseh, ON) earned the win allowing 2 runs over 5 innings while striking out 3.

British Columbia 5 New Brunswick 1 – Dave Hole (Vancouver, BC) went 2 for 3 with a home run in the win. Jake Hein (Langley, BC) took the mound to start and lasted 5.1 shutout innings limiting New Brunswick to 2 hits and picking up a strikeout.

Ontario 4 Québec 1 – Paul Lamantia (Tecumseh, ON) and Mitch Delaney (Lasalle, ON) both drove in 2 runs in the game providing the offense for Ontario. Starter Joel Pierce (Windsor, ON) earned the win allowing only 1 run over 5.2 innings.

UP NEXT: There’s only one more Baseball Canada Championship to go. The 13U National Atlantic Championship is being held in Yarmouth, NS September 11-13.
