Baseball Canada’s Board of Directors unanimously adopts new Baseball Canada Bylaws

OTTAWA – At Baseball Canada’s annual Fall Convention, held from November 9-11 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Baseball Canada’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to adopt a new set of bylaws that will dramatically change the governance model for Baseball Canada.

In July 2022, Baseball Canada identified that a governance review was required and struck a Governance Committee while enlisting the help of a third-party consultant to lead the project.

The new bylaws are in line with (former Sport Minister) The Honorable Pascale St-Onge’s announcement in May 2023 that National Sport Organizations (NSOs) must comply with the Canadian Sport Governance Code, requiring greater independence, diversity, and athlete representation in Board compositions.

With the unanimous approval coming from the current Baseball Canada Board of Directors, the next and final step will be to receive adoption from the Baseball Canada Provincial Membership at the next meeting of members in 2024.

“I am very pleased with the outcome of the vote and want to extend a big thank you to the Governance Committee of Baseball Canada and our consultant Benoit Girardin of LBB Strategies,” stated Baseball Canada President Jean Boulais.  “This is transformative for the sport of Baseball and for the sport sector.”
