Baseball Québec Nominated for Prestigious Award

OTTAWA- Baseball Québec has been nominated for the Federation of the Year Award by Sport Québec. This is the first time that Baseball Québec has been nominated for the award that has been handed out annually since 2004.

“We feel honoured to be finalist as this is a reflection of the work that has been done by the volunteers and the staff,” said Baseball Québec Executive Director Gilles Taillon. “Being a finalist is due to the quality and growth of our programs.”

The other finalists for the award are Judo Québec and Tennis Québec with the winner being announced on December 22nd at the 38th Sport Québec Gala in Montréal. The evening will feature many individual and team awards where many former and current Olympians and Paralympians will be on hand for the event.

Asked why Baseball Québec was nominated for this award, Taillon is quick to point out the great success that the organization has had in increasing the number of kids playing baseball in the province.

“This recognition (being nominated for the award) builds on the efforts that we have put in over the last three years in increasing our membership through the implementation of the Rally Cap and Winterball programs,” explained Taillon.  “Our focus has been to have initiation programs focused on being athlete centered. We successfully implemented rules that were geared to ensure that the kids had fun learning and playing baseball. For a third year in a row, we experienced growth in our membership. This recruiting success is the result of our associations realizing what needs to be done to grow our game.”

Baseball Québec is no stranger to winning high profile awards as they have captured Baseball Canada’s coveted Province of the Year Award five times with the most recent coming in 2009.
