Big inning gives France victory over juniors

OTTAWA-The French Senior National Team broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the fifth and went onto score three more to hand the Junior National Team an 8-1 loss in exhibition play at Champion Stadium in Orlando.

A walk and four hits along with an error coming on a double play ball with one out brought in five runs and the juniors found themselves down by five in the fifth.

Isaac Anesty (Guelph, ON) had provided the juniors with an excellent start working three scoreless innings giving up only one hit and two walks, while striking out five batters.

Reliever Matt Ianni (Ottawa, ON) allowed a double in the sixth that came around to score after a passed ball and sac-sly to give France a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Mitch Bigras (Sarnia, ON) ended up on second base after a walk and passed ball, and scored on a single from Charles Leblanc (Laval, QC).

Royce Ando (Mississauga, ON) recorded two of the juniors’ five hits with the others coming from Demi Orimoloye (Orleans, ON) and Robert Byckowski (Etobicoke, ON).

The juniors hit the ball hard all game long, but often times directly at somebody on the French team.

With Matt Lloyd (Okotoks, AB) on the mound in the eighth, France added two more runs on three singles to take an 8-1 lead.

Lloyd had four strikeouts in three innings of work.

Notes: The juniors will wrap-up the Fall Instructional League portion of the program tomorrow when they travel to Dunedin to take on the Toronto Blue Jays prospects at 11am ET…Kurtis Horne (Sooke, BC) is scheduled to start.
