“I am happy to see our players bounce back in this way after the events that happened here in Venezuela last week,” said André Lachance (Ottawa, ON), Field Manager for Team Canada. “We have a good balance of veterans and younger players and they rallied as a team to refocus on baseball this morning.”

Canada’s pitching was solid. Martine Nadeau (Québec City, QC) started the game and earned the win in the mercy-rule shortened game. She went 3 innings and gave up 1 run on 3 hits. Shayla Sashavar (Saskatoon, SK) pitched 2 innings and gave up 1 walk while striking out 5 batters.

“It was fun to see Martine lead the way for Shayla in this game!” said Jean-Francois Lacroix (Montréal, QC), Pitching Coach for Team Canada.

“Martine is the oldest player with the squad and has been with the program since its beginning in 2004. Shayla was part of our junior development program in Cuba earlier this year and has worked hard to make the National Team this summer. She is also the youngest player on the team!”
