DQ® 13U National Atlantic Championship: Hammonds Plains and Capital District to play for gold

Ottawa, ON – The gold medal match-up is set in stone now that the round-robin has come to an end. Capital District and Hammonds Plains will face off in the finals after each coming out on top in their semi-final contests on Saturday. Sunday’s gold medal game in Mount Pearl, NL is scheduled for 1:00pm at Team Gushue field. St. John’s and Port City will play for bronze at 4:00pm.

Here’s a look at some of Saturday’s action:

Port City 3 Hammonds Plains 2

Brett Baxter (Saint John, NB) was big part of the win for Port City allowing only 1 run while striking out 10 over 5.2 innings of work. Baxter also produced in the batter’s box going 2 for 3 with 1 run scored. Ben Lambert (Grand Bay, NB) and Tyler Desjardins (Saint John, NB) both drove in a run in the low scoring contest.  

Mount Pearl 11 Mid-Isle 10

Mount Pearl’s huge 7-run inning in the top of the 4th was the difference maker in this as it helped them come back from an eight run deficit. Liam Bavis (Mount Pearl, NL) and John Randell (St. John’s, NL) both went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs carrying the offense. Randell picked up a triple while stealing 2 bases and coming across to score three times. Bavis doubled and tripled while scoring 3 runs.

St. John’s 7 Capital District 1

Kaden Murray (Grand Falls Windsor, NL) really showed up to play in this one as he came up with 2 home runs in the outing. Murray went 3 for 4 with 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Camren Cumby (St. John’s, NL) went the distance to earn the win holding Capital District to only 1 run while striking out 4 over 7 innings. Devin MacDonald (Charlottetown, PE) went 2 for 3 with an RBI in the loss.

Riverview 9 Tri-County 3

Starting pitcher Nick St. Pierre (Riverview, NB) was credited with the win after striking out 4 over 6.2 innings on the mound and not allowing a single earned run. Tri-County’s Kiwean Song managed to strike out 8 over 3.1 innings despite the loss. St. Pierre also provided some much needed run picking up 3 RBI a scoring twice. Eli Barnett (Riverview, NB) also drove in 3.

Capital District 4 Port City 0

Tanner MacLean (Charlottetown, PE) helped Capital district punch their ticket to the finals as he struck out 7 batters over 6.1 shutout innings. Kal White (Charlottetown, PE) went 2 for 3 with a double, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored to provide some offense in the win. Alex Graham (Charlottetown, PE) also chipped in going 2 for 4 with a triple, and RBI and a run

Hammonds Plains 4 St. John’s 0

Ryan Fitzgerald’s (Hammonds Plains, NS) 12 strikeout performance allowed Hammonds Plains to secure a spot in the gold medal game on Sunday. Fitzgerald recorded the 12 strikeouts over 6 shutout innings while holding the opposition to 3 hits. Camden Rendell (Hammonds Plains, NS) picked up the teams only hit in the low scoring game and came across to score.
