DQ® 13U National Atlantic Championship: The Hammonds Plains As are golden!

Ottawa, ON – Championship season came to a close on Sunday with the final gold title being awarded to the Hammonds Plains A’s at the DQ® 13U National Atlantic Championship in Mount Pearl, NL. Hammonds Plains became the 11th team to take home gold this summer. Capital District won silver and bronze went to St. John's.

Here’s a look at Sunday’s action:

Riverview 12 Mount Pearl 2

Starting pitcher Gavin Bennett (Riverview, NB) led Riverview to the decisive win over host team Mount Pearl thanks to 4.2 solid innings on the mound. Bennett struck out 8 while giving up only 2 hits in the outing. Owen Robison (Riverview, NB) chipped in offensively going 2 for 4 with a triple, 2 RBIs and a run scored in the win.

Tri-County 11 Mid-Isle 4

Reliever Noah Kuehner (Bedford, NS) was almost unhittable in this one helping Tri-County secure the win. Kuehner struck out 7 over 4.2 innings of 1-hit baseball, shutting out the opposition. Kuehner was also perfect at the plate going 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored. Shane Cowan (Fall River, NS) also contributed offensively going 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored in the win.

Hammonds Plains 12 Capital District 4

Three players had multi-hit games for Hammonds Plains including TJ Norris (Prospect, NS) who went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Norris’ 3 hits were part of a 12-hit outing for the A’s. Kyle Hunt (Hammonds Plains, NS) provided a large portion of the run support in the one going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Hunt also earned the win on the mound striking out 5 over 4.2 innings while holding Capital District to 3 runs.

St. John’s 7 Port City 0

The bats really came alive for St. John’s in this one, especially in the 2nd and 6th when they put up 8 and 7-run innings respectively. Declan Barron (St. John’s, NL) was perfect at the plate going 3 for 3 with 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Brett Hudson (Torbay, NL) also chipped in offensively going 2 for 5 with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored as St. John’s ultimately went home with the bronze medal.
