Fall Instructional League: Juniors cruise past Braves

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida – Four Junior National Team pitchers combined to limit Atlanta Braves hitters to just two hits, while the juniors smacked out nine hits en route to their first win of Fall Instructional League – a 7-1 victory over a group of Atlanta Braves prospects.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The juniors opened the scoring in the first as Edouard Julien (Québec, QC) walked and put himself in scoring position when he stole second. Noah Naylor (Mississauga, ON) followed with a two out, RBI single and Canada was in front, 1-0.

-The only Braves run of the afternoon scored in the second when JNT starter Ben Abram (Georgetown, ON) surrendered a solo home run. That would be the only hit that Abram allowed over three inning of work that saw him record three strikeouts.

-The game remained tied until the sixth when the juniors exploded for three runs to move in front 4-1. All three runs came with two out as Denzel Clarke (Pickering, ON) got things rolling with a walk before Cooper Davis (Mississauga, ON) followed with a single. Julien then doubled to score Clarke, while Davis crossed home plate on a wild pitch. An Adam Hall (London, ON) single brought in Julien to complete the scoring.

-Michael Stovman (Maple Ridge, BC) singled and scored on a Lucas Parente (Burlington, ON) double in the seventh before Julien knocked in a pair of runs in the eight on a base hit to put the Junior up, 7-1.

JNT HIGHLIGHTS

-Pitching was the name of the game for the juniors as Wesley Moore (Surrey, BC) followed Abram’s strong start with three strong innings of his own that saw him give up just one hit and one walk, while fanning two. Jake English (London, ON) followed with two scoreless and hitless inning that saw him strikeout five Braves hitters before Landon Leach (Pickering, ON) two the mound for two frames where he allowed just one hit and fanned a pair.

-Edouard Julien led the juniors’ nine-hit attack with a 2-for-3 day at the plate and three RBI, while Cooper Davis had a pair of hits and scored a run.

-Seven players in the JNT lineup recorded a hit.
