For Baseball Canada, August means - Play Ball!

OTTAWA- The dog days of summer are here and Baseball Canada is looking forward to a full schedule in August that includes nine of ten National Championship tournaments taking place along with events for two of our three National Teams.

National Championship season officially kicks-off on August 6th with our flagship event, the Baseball Canada Cup, taking place in Saskatoon where some of the top 17 and under talent in the country will compete for a National Championship.

Team BC will look to defend their gold medal won last year when the event took place as part of the Canada Summer Games competition in Sherbrooke, Québec.

Baseball Canada’s 50 for 50 contest, designed to identify the top moment in the 50-year history of the organization, is down to two finalists with voting taking place on baseball.ca until August 1st. Will it be the 1991 gold medal winning Youth Team (18U) or the 2011 Pan Am Games gold medal winning National Team declared as the top moment in Baseball Canada’s history? Find out on Thursday, August 7th when the winner is announced on baseball.ca.

From August 14th – 18th, four separate National Championships will take place with the 13U National Western event in Altona (MB), the 18U Championship in Sherbrooke (QC), the 21U Championship in Dartmouth (NS), while the Senior Women Invitational champion will be decided in Surrey (BC).

The Senior Women Invitational will be used by Baseball Canada’s Women’s National Team Manager, André Lachance and his staff to select the squad that will represent Canada at the IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup in Miyazaki, Japan from September 1st to 7th. Once the National Team is picked, a short training camp will be held in Surrey prior to an August 22nd departure for Japan. Upon arriving in Japan, the National Team will take part in a four-game exhibition series before taking on the Netherlands in the first game of the World Cup on September 1st.

The third weekend of National Championships will take place from August 21st-25th. The return of the 13U National event will see London (ON) play host, while the 15U Boys event returns to Vaughan (ON) for yet another year. Saguenay (QC) will host the 16U Girls Invitational and the popular Senior Men event will decide a National Champion in St. John’s (NL).

The tenth and final National Championship will take place in Charlottetown (PE) from September 4th-7th for the 13U National Atlantic.

Finally, the Junior National Team (18U) will hold their final selection camp in Houston, Texas from August 27th-September 2nd. Twenty players will be selected in Houston to represent Canada at the COPABE Pan American 18U Championships that will decide the four teams from the Americas to compete at the 2015 IBAF 18U World Cup in Koshien, Japan.

Baseball Canada is happy to announce that live scoring for all ten National Championship events will again be available via Pointstreak.
