Get to know your PSO: Baseball New Brunswick

Get to know your PSO (Provincial Sport Office) is back in time for the 2015 season with the aim to provide an informative look at each of the ten Provincial Baseball Organizations throughout Canada. The 2015 baseball season is already underway for some provinces, while others are still counting down the days until they can get on the field. Either way, baseball season is upon us so let’s take a closer look at the organizations that help bring baseball to communities across our country!

Three areas of focus in 2015:

Pitch, Hit and Learn Camps

Baseball New Brunswick is expanding their popular Pitch, Hit and Learn camps from two (in 2014) to five for 2015.

“The Pitch Hit and Learn Camps are one-day events focusing on skill development in the areas of pitching, hitting and fielding,” said Executive Director, David Dion. “The camp is geared toward players 9 to 13.

“Dates and locations for the 2015 camps will be announced in early May on the Baseball New Brunswick website.”

Senior Men’s Nationals

Few areas in the country can match the passion and enthusiasm for senior baseball that exists in New Brunswick so you can bet that the crowds will show up in droves to support the 2015 Senior Men National Championship in Chatham.

The event will take place from August 20th – 24th and Dion says it is must see for people in the area.

“If you're in the Chatham/Miramichi area during those dates it is highly recommended to stop on by and enjoy some great baseball!’

Grassroots Programs

One of the deliverables of Baseball New Brunswick’s 2015-2020 strategic plan is to heavily promote Baseball Canada’s grassroots programs - especially Rally Cap.

“(We want) to enhance players and coaches first experiences with the game of baseball,” explained Dion. “ With the principles of the Rally Cap program in mind, Baseball New Brunswick’s end goal is to have 100% of our associations offering the program to its players.

“Many associations we’ve met with have already received Rally Cap with open arms and we look forward to meeting with the rest of our associations as we move forward with this initiative.”
