JNT shutout by Jays

ORLANDO, Florida- The Toronto Blue Jays limited the Junior National Team to only four hits en route to a 6-0 win as the Fall Instructional League continued.

The Jays got on the board in the first when former JNT member Dalton Pompey (Mississauga, ON) led the game off with a triple and later scored on a single to put the Jays up 1-0.

From there JNT starter Clayton Isherwood (Van Anda, BC) settled in and pitched scoreless second and third innings. Isherwood’s outing saw him pitch three innings and give up the one run on two hits, a walk and one strikeout.

The solid pitching for the JNT continued when Michael Clouthier (Guelph, ON) entered the game in the fourth inning. Clouthier also pitched three innings and held the Jays off the scoreboard by only giving up one hit. Clouthier also recorded two strikeouts.

The Jays would score two more runs in the top of the seventh on two throwing errors made by the JNT. In the eighth, the Jays put the game on ice when Logan Seifrit (Spruce Grove, AB) gave up a three-run homer to give the Jays the 6-0 lead.

Skylar Janisse (Maidstone, ON) tossed a scoreless ninth inning and the JNT were shut down in the bottom of the frame to end the game.

The four JNT hits came off the bats of Damion Smith (Windsor, ON), Brandon Collins (Toronto, ON), Gareth Morgan (Toronto, ON) and Brian Doran (Ayr, ON).

Notes: The JNT will get back at it on October 19th when they take on the Atlanta Braves at 1pm ET at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex…Steven Dressler (Burlington, ON) will start for the JNT.
