Morneau, Gillick to attend National Teams Fundraiser

OTTAWA- Two big names in Canadian baseball have just been added to the list of attendees for Baseball Canada’s annual National Teams Awards Banquet and Fundraiser as former MVP and current National League Batting Champion, Justin Morneau of the Colorado Rockies is confirmed to attend along with Baseball Hall of Fame Executive, Pat Gillick.

The annual fundraiser for Baseball Canada’s National Teams is slated for Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at the Renaissance Toronto Downtown.

The addition of Morneau is significant as he joins fellow Canadian MVP’s Larry Walker and Joey Votto as confirmed guests. This will be the first time that all three former MVP’s attend the annual fundraiser in the same year.

With one Baseball Hall of Famer already confirmed to attend in two-time World Series Champion, Roberto Alomar; Baseball Canada is pleased to announce that Hall of Fame Executive, Pat Gillick will also be in attendance on January 10th. Both individuals were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY in 2011.

Gillick has strong ties to Canadian baseball as he became General Manager of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1978 and held the position until 1994. He is best known for being the architect of the Blue Jays’ back-to-back World Series championship clubs from 1992 and 1993.

The Baseball Canada National Teams Awards Banquet and Fundraiser will be an event that you will not want to miss as the newest Toronto Blue Jays player, Russell Martin, will become just the seventh member of the Baseball Canada’s Wall of Excellence, sponsored by RBC Wealth Management.

Tickets for the event, that includes a cocktail hour, dinner, awards presentation and auction, are still available!
