ST. MARYS – It was a special day for the Baseball Canada community on June 24th with former Baseball Canada President Ray Carter along with the entire 2015 Canadian Men’s National Team inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
OTTAWA- A pair of Junior National Team alums, Zach Pop (Brampton, ON) and Daniel Procopio (Toronto, ON), were the lone Canadians selected on day two of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft bringing the two-day total to four Canadians chosen through the first ten rounds.
OTTAWA-Junior National Team right-handed pitcher Landon Leach (Pickering, ON) became the first Canadian selected in the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft after the Minnesota Twins used the first pick in the second round, 37th overall to draft the 17 year-old. Twenty-three picks later, the Baltimore Orioles used their second round choice (60th overall) on Junior National Team shortstop Adam Hall (London, ON) as the first day of the draft concluded with two Canadians selected.
WHAT: The annual Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft (or Rule 4 Draft) gets underway tonight (7pm ET MLB Network/MLB.com) with the first 75 selections (Round 1, Competitive Balance Lottery Round A, Round 2, Completive Balance Lottery Round B), continues Tuesday with rounds three through ten and concludes on Wednesday with rounds 11-40.
