OTTAWA-Week 4 of voting in Baseball Canada’s 50 for 50 contest is complete and our fourth semi-finalist has been determined.
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic-Josh Naylor (Mississauga, ON) quieted the hometown Dominican crowd with one crack of the bat tonight sending a 93 mile-per-hour fastball from top-prospect Huascar Ynoa over the wall in right-centre for a three-run home run to lead the Junior National Team to an 11-0 victory over the MLB Prospects. The game was awarded to the juniors after only four innings, due to heavy rain forcing the cancelation of the remainder of the game.
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic-The Seattle Mariners Dominican prospects limited the Junior National Team to only three hits and took advantage of five errors as they blanked the juniors 5-0 at their brand-new Dominican Academy.
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic-Starter Ben Onyshko (Winnipeg, MB) pitched seven strong innings and struck out nine leading the Junior National Team to a 7-2 victory over the New York Mets Dominican prospects.
Guerra, Dominican Republic- The Junior National Team scored five runs in the top of the seventh erasing a 3-0 deficit and Gareth Morgan (Toronto, ON) belted a two-run homer in the eighth to cap an 8-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers Dominican prospects.
GUERRA, Dominican Republic- Mike Soroka (Calgary, AB), Brad Smith (Vancouver, BC) and Tristan Clarke (Brampton, ON) combined to limit the Tampa Bay Rays Dominican prospects to just one run on seven hits and walked only two, while the Junior National Team’s offence pounded out nine hits and scored six runs in cruising to a 6-1 victory.
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic-The New York Yankees Dominican prospects used ten hits, including two home runs to score nine runs and held the Junior National Team’s bats in check as they went on to a 9-3 victory.
GUERRA, Dominican Republic-The Kansas City Royals Dominican prospects scored four times in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie and held on for a 7-3 win as Dominican Summer League action continued.
GUERRA, Dominican Republic- The Junior National Team received solid outings from Kurtis Horne (Sooke, BC) and Colton Wood (Victoria, BC), but could not muster any offence as the Chicago Cubs Dominican prospects blanked the juniors 2-0.
