OSAKA, Japan-In what was nothing short of a complete team effort, Canada earned a 6-2 win over Chinese Taipei to open the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup with a victory over one of the favourites in Group B.
OSAKA, Japan-After an eight-game series against the Australian U-18 National Team on the Gold Coast and two practice days in Osaka, the Junior National Team can now focus on the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup that will get underway on Friday when they take on Chinese Taipei at Nanko Chuo Stadium (12:30pm JST/11:30pm EDT 08/27).
It took eight games, but Canada finally earned a win in the Australia-Canada U-18 Series as they shutout the Aussies, 1-0. The win means that Canada will head to the WBSC U-18 World Cup on a high note after they dropped the first seven games of the series. Canada will open the World Cup on Friday against Chinese Taipei.
OTTAWA – This week’s three Baseball Canada Championships all came to a close on Sunday with 3 gold medals on the line. Semi-final and final games were played in Repentigny, QC, Vaughan, ON and Chatham, NB.
GOLD COAST, Australia- Baseball Canada announced today the 20-player Junior National Team roster that will represent Canada at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in Osaka, Japan from August 28-September 6.
Canada came up on the wrong end of both games of a doubleheader as the Australian U-18 side shutout the Canadians, 4-0 in game one before coming from behind to earn a 3-2, walk-off win in game two. Australia is now 7-0 in the eight game series with one game remaining, tomorrow (1:00pm AEST/11:00pm EDT).
OTTAWA – The round-robin wrapped up on Saturday at all three ongoing Baseball Canada Championships. Teams took the field looking to guarantee themselves a spot in the medal round on Sunday.
