OTTAWA- With one of the most productive April’s in all of professional baseball, London, Ontario native Jamie Romak has been named the Pacific Coast League (PCL) Player of the Month.
Romak, who represented Canada at the World Baseball Classic in March, played in 22 April games with Triple-A El Paso where he hit .372 (32-for-86) with 11 home runs to lead all of Minor League Baseball. His video-game like .860 slugging percentage and 1.274 OPS were also tops amongst minor leaguers, while is 23 runs scored and 25 RBI were led all players at the Triple-A level.
No stranger to the PCL, the San Diego Padres farmhand slugged 27 home runs and drove in 100 runs with Reno in 2015 and was a starter in the PCL All-Star Game. He also had seasons of 24 and 22 home runs in the PCL in 2014 and 2013, respectively.
Internationally, Romak wore the Maple Leaf with the Junior National Team program in 2002 and 2003 before joining the Senior National Team program for the IBAF World Cup events in 2007 and 2011. Following the 2011 World Cup he helped Canada win a gold medal at the Pan Am Games in Mexico.
Originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves out of high school in 2003, the 31 year-old made his big league debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2014 before getting back to the bigs with the Diamondbacks in 2015.
