OTTAWA – Action is underway at the Senior Men and Peewee Western championships. A total of four games will be played today in both the Men’s tournament and Peewee Western tournament that sees two in the afternoon and two in the evening.
The following is a brief recap of the games completed so far:
Senior Men’s Championship
New Brunswick 8 Manitoba 1
New Brunswick got on the board quickly with five first innings runs and never looked back en route to the victory over Manitoba. Derek Wilson (Fredericton, NB), Andrew Burns (Mirimachi, NB) and Nick Hardy (Mirimachi, NB) all contributed with two RBI each, and Jean-Francois Lebeu (Petit-Rocher, NB) threw all seven innings to pick up the win. Wilson also had a home run.
Alberta 10 Nova Scotia 3
Tied 2-2 after one inning of play, Alberta eventually pulled away with five runs in the fourth inning and went on to the win. Henry Duke drove in three runs to help his team to victory while Corey Christie (Sydney, NS) had two RBI in his team’s defeat.

Peewee Western Championship
Extra innings was needed in what turned out to be a dramatic win for Alberta. The game was tied 3-3 heading into the ninth inning when Alberta scored four runs to take a commanding 7-3 lead. However, Saskatchewan kept their heads high and managed to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth until Logan Cameron (Stony Plain, AB) registered the final out for the win.
BC 14 Manitoba (2) 4
BC used six runs in the first two innings to quickly get ahead of Manitoba, and then added a few more runs to eventually defeat Manitoba by a 14-4 score. Third baseman Rhys Cratty (Surrey, BC) had a great day at the plate for his team as he had two hits, three RBI and three runs scored. Tanner Bercier (La Salle, MB) had two RBI in his team’s losing effort.
