OTTAWA-Tournament 12, presented by New Era, a first of its kind national amateur baseball showcase hosted by the Toronto Blue Jays is set to begin September 20th at Rogers Centre and run through until September 24th.
The event will feature over 200 of the top Canadian baseball players with college eligibility split into ten regional teams (three teams from Ontario, two teams from Quebec and one each from British Columbia, Alberta and Atlantic Canada, as well as a combined team from Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and a Futures Team made up of players from all provinces) forming two pools of five that will play a round-robin format before semi-final and final games are played to determine a champion.
The tournament will provide an excellent opportunity for players to showcase their abilities in front of major league scouts as all 30 MLB teams have confirmed their attendance at the event, while an estimated 40 schools will also be present to check out the talent.
Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar will act as Tournament Commissioner, while former Blue Jays Lloyd Moseby and Duane Ward will attend to provide assistance along with Roberto’s father, Sandy Alomar Sr.
Former big-leaguers and Baseball Canada National Team alums Denis Boucher, Rob Butler, Paul Spoljaric, Adam Stern, Mike Johnson, Nigel Wilson and Scott Thorman are among the coaches who will be attending the event.
Scouts will have their first opportunity to evaluate players beginning Friday, September 20th as each team will have one hour on the field at Rogers Centre where they will be put through a 'Scout Day' consisting of the 60 yard dash, full infield/outfield practice, batting practice and vertical leap.
Six games per day will be played at Rogers Centre beginning Saturday, September 21st at 8am ET running through until Monday, September 23rd.
On Tuesday, September 24th, two final round-robin games will take place before semi-final games are played to determine tournament finalists.
The championship game is scheduled following the semi-final games at 6pm ET.
