Votto Headlines Canadians Set for Action in Baseball Playoffs

Source: The Canadian Press

Joey Votto (Etobicoke, ON) carried the Cincinnati Reds throughout a 2010 season with a performance that should earn him National League MVP honours, and now he's focused on a bigger prize.

The Cincinnati Reds first baseman is among a small handful of Canadians headed to the post-season, and the one most likely to make a big impact.

The American League Central champion Minnesota Twins will be without star first baseman Justin Morneau (New Westminster, BC), when they take on the wild-card winning New York Yankees and third base coach Rob Thomson (Sarnia, ON). Morneau was shut down for the year Monday after the Twins decided there wasn't enough time to get him ready for the AL championship series or World Series, should they get that far, as he recovers from a concussion suffered July 7 at Toronto.

The Twins also feature reliever Jesse Crain (Toronto, ON), a key piece of their bullpen, while Rich Harden (Victoria, BC) has been told he won't pitch for the AL West champion Texas Rangers when they take on the AL East winning Tampa Bay Rays.
