Canada Cup Update: Rain Wreaks Havoc on Day 1
August 10, 2011

MONCTON-Two games scheduled for day 1 of the Baseball Canada Cup, including host New Brunswick versus Nova Scotia, have been postponed due to rain.

The two teams will play a make-up game on Friday August 12th beginning at 8:30am AST at Kiwanis Park in Moncton. The scheduled game between PEI and Manitoba has also been rescheduled to Thursday August 11th at Kiwanis Park with the first pitch coming at 10pm AST.

Saskatchewan 11 Newfoundland 1

The only game of the evening saw Saskatchewan pick up their second win of the day with an 11-1 mercy-rule victory over Newfoundland. Kohl Bauml (Saskatoon, SK) hit a solo homer in the 1st inning and went 3-for4 with 2 RBI’s to lead Saskatchewan offensively. Saskatchewan scored 3 runs in the 1st and 7 more in the 3rd to give them a comfortable lead. Ryan Filyk (Regina, SK) and Aaron Barrett (Saskatoon, SK) each collected 2 hits while Kyle Sonntag (Saskatoon, SK) earned the victory by going 5 innings on the mound, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 3 walks to go along with 9 strikeouts.

Earlier in the day Manitoba edged Nova Scotia 2-1, Saskatchewan got by PEI 9-6, BC blanked Alberta 4-0 and Ontario defeated Québec 4-2.
