BURNABY COLLEGIATE BULLDOGS TO REPRESENT B.C.
December 22, 2012

The Burnaby Collegiate Bulldogs are the first team to be declared for the Canadian Junior Baseball Championship to be hosted by the Dartmouth Juniors from Aug. 15-19 at Beazley Field and Mainland Common. The Collegiate Bulldogs won the provincial crown defeating the host Kelowna Jays by a 4-3 count in 9 innings in a thrilling finish to the season. The Jays had been the defending provincial champions.

The Bulldogs, affiliated with the Burnaby Bulldogs senior club, best remembered for their thrilling gold medal winninig 1-0 victory over the Dartmouth Mooosehead Dry at the 2010 Canadian Senior Baseball Championship hosted by the Dry, will be a force to be reckoned with next summer. The majority of the team's players are members  of the Douglas College Royals who play in the North West Athletic Association of Communtiy Colleges. After taking two seasons off, the team returned to play in both the Pacific Metro Baseball League and the Pacific International League and played a total of approximately 40 games prior to the provincial playoffs. The remainder of the roster is made up of players attending colleges in various parts of the U.S. The club has to be considered one of the favorites at next year's nationals.

The team GM, David Laing, also Director of Baseball B.C., and the team Head Coach, Shawn Schaefer, are eager to return to N.S. They were part of that senior Bulldog club that won it all in 2010, Laing the head coach and Schaefer a pitcher.
