ST. JOHN'S CAPITALS COMING TO THE NATIONALS
July 18, 2013

The St. John's Capitals won the Newfoundland/Labrador provincial junior baseball tournament this past weekend in Cornerbrook, thus earning the right to represent the province in the 2013 CitiFinancial Baseball Canada Under 21 Championship. The Capitals went undefeated with a 3-0 record in round-robin play and then defeated Mount Pearl by a score of 6-5 in the gold medal game. It is the 5th straight provincial title for the St. John's club. Five teams have now qualified for the national tournament, the host team, the Dartmouth Juniors, the PEI Juniors, the Fredericton Royals, the Burnaby Collegiate Bulldogs, and the Capitals. The other teams will be determined at elimination tournaments scheduled for the next two weekends. The N.S. representative will be declared next weekend, July 26-28 when the Tri-County Rangers and the Halifax Juniors participate in a tournament with the host team from Dartmouth.
