Summerside is excited and humbled to be hosting once again another National sporting event. In the summer of 2017, the City of Summerside hosted the Boys 15U National Championship which was a huge success! Baseball is thriving in Summerside, and the inclusion of this event to our growing list of sport hosting accomplishments is welcome. The Summerside Area Baseball Association is now gearing up to host the 13U National Atlantic Championship for summer 2018!
Baseball PEI along with the City of Summerside has given us their support for this event, as they understand the significant impact it has on the baseball community, and for its development. This will provide an opportunity to the members of our association to attend a National Championship, along with another team from PEI. The increase in fan support from across island is a boon to the local economy from not only a hosting association point of view but sport tourism as well.
Our friends at the Summerside Sport Entertainment Tourism department of the City of Summerside have completed an economic analysis in advance of the event, and determined that it could generate $700,000 economic activity based on the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) STEAM model tools. In addition to the economic impact, this event has an immeasurable impact on grassroots baseball, to not only our association but baseball on PEI as a whole.
