The host London Badgers got off to a great start in the Midget championship as they hammered Manitoba by a score of 8-1. Taylor Carr (St. Thomas, ON) smacked a solo homer and Byron Reichstien (St. Thomas, ON) was 3 for 4 including a double and knocked in 2 runs to lead the London offence. Andrew Simonetti (Toronto, ON) picked up the win, pitching four 1-hit innings and striking out 3 batters.

In other action, Shawn Reid was 3 for 4 with an RBI as New Brunswick beat Saskatchewan 6-1. Québec 1 took care of Alberta 4-1. Also, BC hammered Manitoba by a score of 10-0 and Québec 2 beat Nova Scotia 4-3.

The host, London Badgers, moved to 2-0 on the day as the topped Alberta by a score of 4-2 at the Midget championship. For the most part it was a pitcher’s duel as both teams only registered 6 hits each. Alberta’s Cashtyn Deleeuw (Grimshaw, AB) took the loss despite striking out 11 batters.

With Alberta clinging to a 1-0 lead in the 6th inning, London scored 4 runs to take the lead. Josh Tetreau (London, ON) and Cam Firth (London, ON) both had RBI singles to highlight the inning offensively for London.

After getting the lead, Tetreau, who was credited with the win and Dayton Dawe (London, ON), who got the save, were able to shut down the Alberta batters the rest of the way.

Derek Fortier (Windsor, ON) went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI as Ontario walked all over Nova Scotia 13-3. In the last game of the day Giles Virgin (Regina, SK) tossed a complete game as Saskatchewan beat Québec (2) by a score of 4-1. Virgin didn’t give up an earned run and struck out 6.
