 2014 Women’s Baseball Nationals Press Release

Surrey, BC – August 1st 2014 – Women’s Baseball Nationals are finally coming to Beautiful British Columbia for the first time in what seems like forever. These women range in age from 14 through 35.  This event, hosted by the BC Women’s Open Baseball Team, displays talent from the top female athletes across Canada, all while being played on a regular sized Major League Baseball field.

The 2014 Nationals will run from August 14th – 18th at the Whalley Ballpark in Surrey British Columbia. This highly anticipated event, taking place at the Whalley Chiefs Stadium promotes the highest level of Women’s Baseball in Canada as it showcases all skill and talent levels from ages sixteen and up. Opening ceremonies kick off the tournament the night of August 13th at the Vancouver Canadians game at Nat Bailey Stadium where all 8 teams from the provinces of Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia will be introduced. Ontario, the reigning National Champions are sending two teams this year, as are Quebec and BC.  

The members of the BC Womens Team would like to thank their community partners Hosting BC, the Province of BC and ViaSport for their support of this event.  “The Hosting BC grant program helps bring sporting events to a broader range of communities across the province, inspiring the development of local athletes, providing economic benefits for the host community and increasing sport participation overall. Hosting BC grant recipients have the ability to make lasting impacts in their home communities and we’re pleased to help foster their success,” said Cathy Priestner Allinger, CEO, of ViaSport.

The Whalley Chiefs Stadium will host the majority of the games throughout the four-day tournament with additional games being played at Holly Park.  The championship games will be played on Sunday August 17th with Tournament awards to follow as well as the announcement of the 20 female athletes who will be representing Canada in the VI Womens Baseball World Cup in Mayazaki, Japan September 1st – 7th.

Baseball Canada is “committed to furthering Canadian baseball development at both the national and international levels. The primary goal is achieving excellence at all levels. Therefore, it is essential to provide all participants with the opportunity to reach their individual potential.”1

The Whalley Ballpark is located in the heart of Surrey BC in the 10600 block of University Blvd., allowing the participants to easily access the park as well as travel and explore the beautiful Cities of Surrey and Vancouver. Can’t make it to the tournament? There will be live streaming found on the link below as well as Twitter updates on @2014CdnWomBas account. Tournament passes are available for preorder ($20) via email at 2014cwbn.sm@gmail.com or at the gate ($25). Individual day tickets are at the gate only for $6 each Thurs or Fri and $8 each Sat or Sun.  All proceeds go towards making this a memorable event for all!
