Summerside, PEI- The Peewee Atlantic championship started with four games on the slate.
Host, Summerside got off to a great start when they beat the KV club from New Brunswick 13-9. Summerside, who led until the fourth inning answered a four run KV rally with five runs of their own to take an 11-7 lead. Summerside was led offensively by Jed Noonan (Summerside, PEI) who was 3-for-4 with one run scored a three RBI. Jayden MacLean (Summerside, PEI) also chipped in at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. The KV club relied on Patrick Barry (Quispamsis, NB) who had two hits and scored two runs. On the mound, Noonan made the most of his 2 2/3 innings of work by striking out six batters to record the win.
In a wild one Yarmouth scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to earn an 8-7 come from behind victory over St. John’s. Morgan Theriault (Mavillette, NS) scored the winning run and also had three RBI to pace his team offensively. Parker Gulliver (St. John’s, NL) had two hits and an RBI in the loss.
Charlottetown made it two victories for PEI teams on the day as they defeated Saint John 6-3. Devon Simmons (Charlottetown, PEI) and Spencer Sherron (Charlottetown, PEI) each had two hits and an RBI for Charlottetown. Luc Manuel (Chatham, NB) had two RBI in a losing cause for Saint John.
Halifax proved their worth in the tournament as they pounded Mount Pearl 8-0. Halifax was led by Nick Welsh (Halifax, NS) who scored two runs, had one hit and two RBI. Halifax was also able to take advantage of five Mount Pearl errors. Blair Dewtie (New Glasgow, NS) tossed four solid innings for Halifax, striking out four to earn the win.
