Canada-Japan Women’s Series: Day 3 recaps

GRANBY, QC- Only one game was played at the Canada-Japan Women’s Series today as a storm rolled through the Granby area causing the postponement of the evening game between Canada Red (1-1) and the Saitama Sakae Beavers (1-1).

The game will be played tomorrow morning at 10am ET.

On the field the Saitama Sakae Orange (2-1) got back into the win column with an 11-3 victory over Canada White (1-2).

Canada White matched-up well against the Saitama Sakae Orange in the hit department, but on the scoreboard it was a different story as the Orange earned a one-sided 11-3 win.

Canada White managed 11 hits to the Orange’s 12, but left 12 runners on base during the contest.

The Orange opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the second on two RBI singles and a fielder’s choice.

Canada White fought back with a run in the bottom of the inning when Nicole Luchanski’s (Edmonton, AB) single allowed Jenna Flannigan (Cornwall, ON) to score.

Luchanski and Flannigan each picked-up two hits on the day including a double for Flannigan, while Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) also had a double to go along with a single.

The Orange led 7-2 after five innings and put the game out of reach in the sixth with a four run frame.

Hannah Martensen (Ottawa, ON) was a bright spot on the mound tossing 1 2/3 scoreless innings giving up two hits, while fanning three.

Notes: Action continues tomorrow at 10am ET when Canada Red takes on the Saitama Sakae Beavers. Canada Red will be back at it at 2pm against the Saitama Sakae Orange, while the evening match-up features the Beavers against Canada White.
