Round Robin Complete - Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Victoria Advance to Semis
August 27, 2006

Day 3 of the Pee Wee AAA Nationals saw a battle of 2 undefeated teams in Pool A, as well as some interesting twists and turns in Pool B to keep the semi finalists in limbo until the final game was complete.

In Pool A, the feature game of the day was the battle between undefeated Victoria and Quebec which saw Quebec win 10-4 to clinch first place and relegate Victoria to second place in the playoff round.  In other morning action, PEI defeated Saskatchewan 10-7, while New Brunswick shut-out Manitoba 6-0. In afternoon action, Manitoba posted their first win of the tournament with a 7-3 win over PEI while New Brunswick blasted Saskatchewan 10-3.  Pool A Final standings were as follows: 1-Quebec, 2-Victoria, 3-PEI, 4-New Brunswick, 5-Saskatchewan, 6-Manitoba.

In Pool B things got really interesting. Ontario started the day by beating Nova Scotia 11-3 to clinch a berth in the semis. Alberta, playing to stay alive, won a squeaker over Newfoundland that kept them in the running for first place. Nova Scotia then pulled off perhaps the upset of the tournament to date by defeating British Columbia 8-6. This set up an interesting scenario in the final Pool B game featuring Ontario and Alberta. An Alberta win would give them first and Ontario second. An Alberta loss however, would relegate them to 4th place, while BC and Nova Scotia would then play a tie break game Sunday morning to decide 2nd and 3rd. So with Nova Scotia and BC players cheering for Ontario, Alberta promptly came out of the gates with a 6 run first inning and ultimately hung on to defeat Ontario 11-9 and clinch first place.

So the semi-finals are set for Sunday with Victoria at Alberta and Ontario at Quebec.  Newfoundland is at Saskatchewan for the 5th place game. British Columbia is at New Brunswick for the 4th place game, and Nova Scotia is at PEI for the 3rd place game.
