National Championships: Nanaimo and Québec Win Gold!

Bantam Boys (Vaughan, ON)

Québec-8 Alberta-3 (Gold Medal)

Québec proved that they were the class of the tournament with an 8-3 win over Alberta in the Gold Medal game. Like they have all week, Québec used a balanced attack and received some fine pitching in the championship contest to claim gold. Charles Leblanc (Laval, QC) had a 3-for-4 game, including a double and Louis-Philippe Pelletier (Montréal, QC) came up with a clutch, two-run single in the fourth to give his team a 4-0 lead. Samuel Duquette (St-Jean-sur-Richelieu (QC) allowed only one run during four innings of work to get the win while Tristan Pagé (Ste-Julie, QC) came on in relief and preserved the lead. Alberta’s Carson Wlad (Calgary, AB) had an RBI double in the loss.

BC-8 Vaughan-1 (Bronze Medal)

Alex Hendra-Brown (Victoria, BC) had a triple and two RBI’s as BC took the Bronze Medal with an 8-1 win over Vaughan. BC scored three times in the first and two runs in both the second and third innings to build an insurmountable lead. Colton Wood (Victoria, BC), Evan Badry (Victoria, BC) and Kurt Horne (Sooke, BC) combined to limit Vaughan to one run and six hits.

Québec-9 Vaughan-8 (Semi-Final)

After hitting a lead-off triple in the bottom of the seventh, Cyrus Senior (Kirkland, QC) scored the winning run on a Tomy Blais (Ste-Julie, QC) single to put Québec in the Gold Medal game with a 9-8 victory over Vaughan. In the back and forth game, Vaughan’s Josh Naylor (Mississauga, ON) had a double and two RBI’s while Québec’s Tristan Pagé ((Ste-Julie, QC) had three singles and two RBI’s.

Alberta-3 BC-0 (Semi-Final)

Matthew Lloyd (Okotoks, AB) threw a complete-game shutout as Alberta advanced to the Gold Medal game with a 3-0 win over BC. Jagar Gallant (Airdrie, AB) scored the eventual winning run in the second inning when he hit a lead-off single and later scored on a fielder’s choice. Nicholas Vickers (Calgary, AB) had a single and two RBI’s for Alberta.

In placement games, Nova Scotia thumped Manitoba 19-9 to take ninth place; Saskatchewan pounded Newfoundland 11-1 to claim seventh spot and Ontario handed New Brunswick a 10-3 loss in the fifth place game.
