National Championships: Midget & Junior championships underway

Junior Ontario (1) 9 Nova Scotia 4 Derrik Strzalkowski (London, ON) went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s as Ontario 1 defeated Nova Scotia 9-4. Baird Kelly (Stratford, ON) earned the win on the mound going 5 2/3 innings giving up two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five batters. Connor Sullivan (Cole Harbour, NS) went 2-for-3 for Nova Scotia. Québec 28 Newfoundland 0 Québec began their quest for gold with a dominant 28-0 victory over Newfoundland. Jacob Gosselin- Deschesnes (St-Hyacinthe, QC) threw a no-hitter and struck out ten while Dany Deschamps (Montréal, QC) went 5-for-5, including a homerun and seven RBI’s. Ontario (2) 5 New Brunswick 3 Ontario 2 used a three-run fourth inning to earn a 5-3 victory over New Brunswick. Phil Owen (Richmond Hill, ON) was the winning pitcher going five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks while fanning two. Ryan Panas (Etobicoke, ON) collected a hit, scored a run and had an RBI while New Brunswick’s Josh Dewitt (Moncton, NB) went 3-for-4. Manitoba 6 Saskatchewan 2 Defending champion Manitoba got off on the right foot with a 6-2 win over Saskatchewan. Manitoba scored four times in the bottom of the first as Saskatchewan committed five errors. Brendan Shearer (Winnipeg, MB) went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Daniel Worb (Winnipeg, MB) had two hits and an RBI while also tossing two scoreless innings of relief. Nick Spizawka( Saskatoon, SK) accounted for both Saskatchewan runs as he belted a two-run homer in the fourth.
