Peewee Atlantic Championship: Fredericton takes home Gold in championship thriller
September 09, 2012

OTTAWA – Fredericton handed Charlottetown their first and only loss of Peewee Atlantic Championship with a dramatic walk-off win the bottom of the seventh inning.  Fredericton scored two runs to grab the win after giving up the lead only an inning earlier.

Gold Medal

New Brunswick – Fredericton 4  PEI – Charlottetown 3

Both teams played each other conservatively through the first half of the game, as the score remained 0-0 midway through the affair.  The rest of the game proceeded to be the opposite, however, as both teams exchanged leads four times until Fredericton walked off in the bottom of the seventh.

Peyton Hoyt (Lincoln, NB) scored the game-winning run off of a Jack Ryan (Fredericton, NB) RBI single to right field.  Both Hoyt and Ryan finished the game with two hits and a RBI each.  Hunter McQuaid (Cornwall, PE) finished the game a perfect 3/3 with two RBI in the heart-breaking loss.

Adam Estey (Fredericton, NB) pitched all seven innings to pick up the win.  He was calm and cool under pressure when faced with runners on base, and managed to limit the damage when his team needed it the most.  Estey also finished the tournament with a .438 batting average at the plate.

Bronze Medal

Nova Scotia – Bridgewater 10  Nova Scotia – Tri County 7

Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, scored eight runs in the first three innings to build a comfortable lead, and then lasted through a comeback attempt from Tri County to take home the bronze medal.  The middle of the order did most of the damage for Bridgewater as Ryan O’Toole (Bridgewater, NS), Zack Zinck (Bridgewater, NS) and Keeshaun Such (Hantsport, NS) combined for seven hits, seven RBI and four runs scored.  Gavin Boutilier (Lower Sackville, NS) scored twice and also had two RBI in the losing effort.

This is the second consecutive year that Bridgewater goes home with a medal around their necks.  They won the tournament last year.
