Ottawa – Baseball returns to both Québec and Nova Scotia this weekend to kick off a pair of championship tournaments. Trois-Riviéres will host the 18U (Midget) tournament while the 21U (Junior) tournament will be hosted a little further east in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Teams from all over Canada will descend upon Trois-Riviéres starting Thursday to compete for the title of Canada’s National 18U Champion. This tournament will run from August 15-19 throughout the city and three different venues.
This event features a total of eleven teams divided into two pools, A and B, with five teams in Pool A and the remaining six in Pool B. Pool A consists of Ontario, Québec, host Trois-Riviéres, Alberta, and British Columbia while Pool B will comprise of Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick.
Team Alberta will look to repeat as champions, but the ten other teams eager to create their own success in 2013. Tournament play kicks off bright and early at 8:30a.m. ET with three games including New Brunswick vs. Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador vs. Saskatchewan, and Ontario vs. Alberta.
21U (Junior) Championship
Further down the road in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, teams from all across Canada will look to capture the 21U championship that also begins tomorrow and runs throughout the weekend.
This event will feature ten teams divided into a standard format of two pools, A and B, with an even split of five teams in each pool. Pool A contains teams representing Québec, Manitoba, Dartmouth (host), Newfoundland and Labrador, and British Columbia while Pool B is made up of teams from Ontario, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan.
Team Québec returns seeking to become back-to-back champions while the other nine teams look to make a name for themselves. Action gets underway at 8:30a.m. ADT when New Brunswick takes on Ontario.
