OTTAWA – Four games from Friday were carried over into Saturday at the Canada Cup, which made for lots of baseball to be played. Leading after four innings heading into today, Manitoba made sure to hold onto that lead by scoring seven runs in the final two innings to defeat New Brunswick 19-10. Other games also completed Saturday saw Nova Scotia defeat Newfoundland and Labrador 8-2; Ontario edge Quebec 6-5; and Alberta power past BC 13-9.
Manitoba 19 New Brunswick 10
Manitoba scored at least one run in every inning but one and recorded a tournament high 20 hit en route to victory. Every player in the Manitoba lineup had at least one hit, including four from leadoff hitter Luke Horanski (Cooks Creek, MB). He also had four RBI. Nick Leggatt (Loggieville, NB) had three hits and two RBI for New Brunswick.
Nova Scotia 8 Newfoundland and Labrador 2
Two big innings was all Nova Scotia needed to close the door on a victory over Newfoundland and Labrador. A three run first inning and five run fifth inning was all that was needed. Greg Herritt (Halifax, NS) and Judson Wiseman (West Gore, NS) provided most of the offense for Manitoba combining for four hits and five RBI.
Ontario 6 Québec 5
Ontario rallied for five late runs, including three in their last at-bat, to defeat Québec 6-5. With two out and runners on first and third, Zachary Lampreia (Toronto, ON) hit a single to drive in the winning run. Raphaël Gladu (Trois-Rivières, QC) went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for Québec.
Alberta 13 BC 9
Alberta started the game plating five runs in the first inning and never looked back to claim the win over BC. Five Alberta players each scored two runs and Logan McDonald (Spruce Grove, AB) closed the game with one and one-third shutout innings. BC’s Griffin Andreychuk (Nanaimo, BC) registered four hits, including a home run.

PEI 4 Nova Scotia 2
A two run sixth inning was the only blemish for starter JP Stevenson (Bedeque, PE) as he went the distance in a 4-2 triumph over Nova Scotia. Right fielder Willem Slauenwhite (Cornwall, PE) was the catalyst offensively, leading the way with four hits and two runs scored. Designated hitter Luke Muise (Yarmouth, NS) drove in both Nova Scotia runs.
Saskatchewan 6 New Brunswick 4
Saskatchewan’s five runs through the first two innings were enough to hold on and defeat New Brunswick by a two run margin. Jager Toffan’s (Regina, SK) three hits and two RBI ignited a Saskatchewan offense that also saw leadoff hitter Nolan Benesh (Regina, SK) score three runs. Corey Kavanagh (Fredericton, NB) drove in two runs for his club.
Ontario 3 BC 2
A three run third inning spearheaded Ontario to collect the victory over BC. Pitcher Blake Weston (Oakville, ON) threw three shutout innings in relief to earn the save, while BC starting pitcher Clark Grisbrook (North Vancouver, BC) took the loss despite going the distance and giving up no earned runs.
Manitoba 6 Newfoundland and Labrador 4
Manitoba was able to capitalize on some breaks given to them to defeat Newfoundland and Labrador by a score of 6-4. Luke Horanski (Cooks Creek, AB) and Derek Millar (Oak Bluff, MB) each scored two runs for Manitoba while Newfoundland’s Travis Taylor (Corner Brook, NL) had two hits and a run scored. Wet field conditions made have played a factor in the nine errors committed in this game.
Québec 6 Alberta 4
Tied heading into the sixth inning, Québec scored two runs on a Raphaël Gladu (Trois-Rivières, Qc) two run single to take the lead and ultimately win the game 6-4. Relief pitcher Tristan Legault (Mascouche, QC) earned the win while pitching three and two-thirds innings of no-hit ball.
