Trois-Rivières, August 19th 2010- In the opening game of Baseball Canada’s 2010 Pepsi Junior Championship, the Host team Trois-Rivières Aigles Plante Sports defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 12-1, in 6 innings, at Trois-Rivières’s Fernand-Bédard Stadium.
After a scoreless first inning, Trois-Rivières took a 1-0 lead in the second, when Jonathan Valdez scored on a Pier-Olivier Dostaler single.
In the top of the third inning, a Dominic Samyn single sent Cédric Vallières and Charles Trottier home, for a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Newfoundland and Labrador scored it’s only run, when Steve Brien crossed home plate on a Justin Downey ground out.
Trois-Rivières scored four times in the fourth to take a 7-1 commanding lead. Michael Laprise scored on a Antoine Désilets double, then Jonathan Valdez got the fans on their feet, hitting a three run homerun off Newfoundland starter, Tyler Pittman.
In the bottom of the fourth, Newfoundland and Labrador missed a great opportunity to score, when two errors by Trois-Rivières’s short-stop, Pier-Olivier Dostaler, loaded the bases. Dostaler atoned for his two mistakes, by starting an inning ending double play.
Trois-Rivières put the game out of reach scoring twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth. The «Mercy Rule» ended the game after six innings.
