Trois-Rivières, August 19th 2010. - The last game of day 1, featured the host team, Trois-Rivières Aigles Plante Sports and New Brunswick. The fans in attendance saw a masterpiece performance, by young 16 year old pitcher, Jean-François Dionne, in a 5-0 win for Trois-Rivières.
The kid, who just last week played in the Canada Cup Tournament, in Kindersley SK, allowed just one hit, a first inning single to Robert Gallant.
Trois-Rivières missed a golden opportunity in the second inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, Jean-Sébastien Gaulin hit in a fielders choice, Charles Trottier popped out to the catcher, and Symon Laplante grounded out to first.
The host team took a 4-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Short-stop Pier-Olivier Dostaler drove in two with a single, Symon Laplante was issued a walk, with the bases loaded, and Antoine Desilets had an RBI single. New Brunswick starter Cris D’Amours was replaced by Curtis Bastarache.
In the bottom of the sixth, New Brunswick had runners at the corners, with two outs, but failed to score.
In the top of the seventh, Trois-Rivières rightfielder Jonathan Valdez thought he had hit a homerun, but was thrown out at second. Marc-André Corbeil followed with a triple, and scored on a Pier-Olivier Dostaler sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the crowd got on it’s feet to cheer the Aigles young pitcher. Dionne made short order of the three batters he faced.
