Trois-Rivières, August 20th 2010- The second day of competition, at the 2010 Baseball Canada Pepsi Junior Championship started with a Quebec-Saskatchewan matchup. Quebec’s starting pitcher, Jacob Gosselin-Deschênes was perfect until the fifth inning.
In the first inning, Saskatchewan starting pitcher, Steven Latos, gave up consecutive walks to Jean-François Hamel and Dany Deschamps, both came home on a Michael Page double to right, it was 2-0 Quebec.
Manager Robert Fatal’s team took a 4-0 lead in the third. Dany Deschamps scored from second on a Michael Page single, when he challenged the throw home from leftfielder Craig Hucul, Page went to second on catcher Cole Kustaski error. Nicolas Loiseau followed with a double, to plate Page.
The wheels came off for Saskatchewan’s defence in the fourth inning. Catcher Kustaski’s throwing error sent Guillaume Aubin home, then a wild throw from third baseman Jason Fechter, on a Jean-François Hamel grounder, got Thierry Vallières to score the sixth Quebec run.
Quebec sealed Saskatchewan faith in the fifth, scoring seven times, for a 13-0 lead. DH Philippe Charpentier lead the charge with a three run double, while Jean-François Hamel and Kevin Tremblay each had RBI singles.
Saskatchewan’s leadoff hitter in the fifth, Craig Hucul, hit a ground ball along the third baseline, Quebec’s third baseman Kevin Tremblay dove to make the play, but was disappointed not being able to come up with the ball. The base hit broke Jacob Gosselin-Deschênes bid for a perfect game. The contest ended after 5 innings, because of the «mercy rule».

Veteran Sherbrooke Qc Umpire, René Provencher was summoned to Trois-Rivières, to replace injured Umpire Rocky Nickel. He was very happy to see Martin Beaulieu, who now lives in Nova Scotia.
Tournament Volunteers, Raphaël Carrier at Fernand-Bédard Stadium, and Daniel Hardy at Laviolette Park, make sure the players and umpires have all the drinks they need.
