Senior Women’s Invitational to Start July 22nd

OTTAWA- The 2010 Senior Women’s Invitational tournament will be played from July 22-25 at Bond Park in Toronto. The event will feature six teams vying for a championship. The teams that will be represented this year include: Alberta, Nova Scotia, two teams representing Ontario (Ontario and Ontario 2), the defending champions from Québec and the Québec Midget team. The event will also be used to select player’s that will compete for a spot on the Women’s National Team. Head Coach of the Women’s National Team, André Lachance is extremely excited about the upcoming tournament and the future of the event in Canada.

“We are happy to see two teams coming from Ontario and two from Québec this year. We hope we can build on it and have teams attending from other provinces next year.”

After practicing July 27-29 at Bond Park, the final roster for the Women’s National Team will be announced. The team will head to Caracas, Venezuela to participate in the Women’s World Cup from August 12-22.

Lachance promises that the Senior Women’s Invitational event will be extremely competitive as many players will be looking to impress National Team coaches.

“‘The event represents a perfect moment for the coaching staff to evaluate our talent and to select our athletes in preparation for the World Cup,” explained Lachance. “As the pool of talent keeps improving, the selection process becomes more challenging for us as we try to put together the best team possible that will help us win a World Championship in Venezuela.”

The Women’s National Team will be introduced at Rogers Centre prior to the Toronto Blue Jays game on July 27th.
