Senior Women’s Invitational: Day 1 Recap

North York- The Senior Women’s Invitational got underway at Bond Park in North York. Here is a game-by-game recap of the action on Day 1 of the tournament.

Game 1

Québec 5 - Ontario (2) 2

Andréanne Perron threw 4 solid innings and Melanie Anctil threw 3 scoreless innings for Québec. Patricia Landry went 2 for 4 and scored 3 runs for Québec. For Ontario (2), Breanne Wilson was 2 for 3 and Brittany Chan took the loss.

Game 2

Nova Scotia-0 Ontario-10

In a game stopped after 5 innings because of the 10-run mercy rule, Autumn Mills was the star of the game for Ontario. Mills went 4 for 4 at the plate and also picked up the win striking out 7 batters in 5 innings. Jen Gilroy chipped in with 3 RBI’s for Ontario.

Game 3

Alberta-11 Québec-0

In another game shortened by a mercy rule, Alberta showed their power with 14 hits off losing pitcher Martine Nadeau and other Québec pitchers. Nicole Luchanski went 3 for 3 and scored 3 runs while Tara Sliwkanich had 3 RBI’s to lead Alberta offensively.

Game 4

Ontario (2)-9 Nova Scotia-1

Nova Scotia suffered their second lost of the day as Hannah Martensen picked up the win for Ontario and also went 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI’s. Brittany Chan had and excellent day at the plate, going 3 for 5.

Game 5

Quebec Midget-0   Ontario-10

In a shortened 5 inning game, Ashley Stephenson went 2 for 2 and had 3 RBI to lead the Ontario charge. The star of the game for Ontario also added a defensive gem in the 4th inning. Kate Psota was 2 for 2 while Tylin Lee earned the win for Ontario.

Notes: The Senior Women’s Nationals will run until July 25th at Bond Park. Please visit http://www.baseball.ca/seniorwomen/ to keep track of all the action. ...At the conclusion of the event players will be selected to try-out for the Women’s National Team. After the try-out process a team will be chosen to represent Canada at the Women’s World Cup in Caracas, Venezuela from August 12-22.
