Senior Men

Ontario (2) 4 Newfoundland 0

Jerome Smith (Mississauga, ON) hit a two-run homerun as part of a three-run second inning and Ontario 2 went on to defeat Newfoundland 4-0. Winning pitcher Jason Byrnes (Mississauga, ON) pitched a complete game and only gave-up four hits while striking out two batters.

Ontario (1) 9 Manitoba 0

John Picco (Woodslee, ON) struck out eight while only giving up three hits as Ontario 1 blanked Manitoba 9-0. Ontario 1 was ahead 4-0 before exploding for five runs in the 7th to make the score 9-0. Thomas Grubb (Wheatley, ON) paced the offence with two hits and four RBI’s while Adam Ellwood (Windsor, ON) collected two hits, one RBI and scored two runs.

Alberta 5 Nova Scotia (1) 0

Dustin Northcott (Rocky Mountain House, AB) tossed a one-hitter and struck out three as Alberta shutout Nova Scotia (1) 5-0. Alberta scored twice in the third to open the scoring and added three more in the sixth with two of the runs courtesy of a Denver Wik (Red Deer, AB) two-run homer.

New Brunswick-6 ON2 Windsor-5 (8 innings)

Chris Sorenson (Fredericton, NB) led the bottom of the eighth inning off with a solo homerun as New Brunswick walked-off with a 6-5 victory over Ontario 2. New Brunswick scored five times in the third only to see Ontario 2 tie the game with a five run outburst of their own in the sixth. Andrew Dos Santos (Mississauga, ON) went 3-for-4 in the loss.

ON1 Mississauga-6 NS2 Halifax-5 (8 innings)

Dave Mastrodicasa’s (Amherstburg, ON) bases loaded single in the bottom of the eighth brought home the winning run as Ontario 1 moved to 2-0 with a 6-5 win over Nova Scotia 2. Ontario 1 had taken a 5-0 lead through four only to see Nova Scotia 2 tie the score to send the game to extras. Justin Pennell (Toronto, ON) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Adam Lucas (Sackville, NS) had a double and three RBI’s for Nova Scotia 2.

BC-3 Chatham-2

Defending champion BC went into hostile territory and defeated host Chatham 3-2 after the Opening Ceremonies at Ironmen Field. Down 1-0 in the fifth, Jared Johnson’s (Kelowna, BC) single brought in two runs to give BC the lead. They would add another in the sixth on a bases loaded walk and Leon Boyd (Surrey, BC) threw a complete-game to pick-up the win. Chatham’s Jean Francois Neveu (Petit Rocher, NB) struck out nine in the loss while Andrew Burns (Miramichi, NB) had an RBI double in the seventh.
