About the Host City

Moncton has a rich history as host for major events.  We’ve been host for Canada’s Memorial Cup Championship in 2006 and for the last ten years we have hosted the hugely successful World Food and Wine Festival which attracts more than 5,000 people annually.  Last year, Moncton was host to the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships, the largest international sporting event ever hosted in Atlantic Canada, with over 170 countries and almost 2,000 athletes. Moncton has hosted a number of baseball tournaments in the past 1994 Canada Cup (Blue Jay Cup), 1997 World Junior Baseball Championships, 2004 Baseball Canada Senior Nationals, 2007 Canadian Intercollegiate Baseball Championships

 

Most recently, the City of Moncton won the distinction of being one of the 7 Most Intelligent Communities in the world by the Intelligent Communities Forum.  The Intelligent Communities Forum is a think tank that studies the economic and social development of the 21st Century community.
