2013 Canada-Japan Women Baseball Series ChampionshipsJul 15-21   Granby, Québec

About the Host City

Incorporated as a city in 1859 we are celebrating our 154th anniversary this year.  Granby, a city of just over 60,000 souls is situated roughly 80 kilometres southeast of Montréal.  It is easily accessible by taking highway 10 (Autoroute des Canton de L’Est). It can be found half way between the cities of Montréal and Sherbrooke.  Granby is the regional hub of the area playing the economic host to the cities and villages in the outlying areas.  Typically, our city is a bit warmer and has less snow than the rest of the Province of Québec.

Granby, an industrial city is home to a broad spectrum of local, national and international companies. Be it the plastic, textile, aeronautical, electronic, or furniture industry we have them all.  Because of its geographic location it tends to spark interest in many companies being close to major Canadian cites and also just 50 kilometres from the USA border

In recent years, we have also welcomed with open arms immigrants from South America and Kosovo, which have helped to expand our cultural horizons.

Granby is also home to a world renowned Zoo and is well known for its parks and green spaces.  Lake Boivin, set in the middle of the city boasts a beautiful water fountain similar to the fountain in Geneva, Switzerland.  The whole lake area is surrounded by green space. The Yamaska River flows through the city, a trout-stocking project has been underway for a few years now to bring back this species to the river.

Our organisation, Les Guerriers de Granby, has been in existence since the early nineties.  We administer three major baseball teams ranging from the Junior AA (18-22), Junior Élite (18-22) and Senior AAA (23 and over).

Our home, the ‘Stade Napoleon Fontaine’, is a 990-seat stadium constructed by the City in the early nineties.  We are quite comfortable and all the teams seem to enjoy our facilities.  Throughout the years, our organisation has played host to various provincial tournaments covering different levels and categories.

In 2008, our cooperation was solicited to play host for a training camp covering all the girls’ baseball categories.  That same year, we also hosted the Midget girls Canadian championships.  In 2009, we expanded our horizons to host the Senior Women’s Canadian championships and an international women’s tournament in July, bringing together teams from Canada, USA and Japan.
