Situated along the Assiniboine River is southwestern Manitoba, the city of Brandon is home to approximately 43,000 residents, with a trading area population of more than 180,000. Brandon is often referred to as "The Wheat City" for its strong agricultural heritage, and as "The Host City" for the number of national and international events that have taken place in the city. This tradition continues as Brandon hosts the province for the 2003 Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games and the 2006 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games. BRANDON is located in the southwestern part of the Province 200 klm west of the City of Winnipeg on the Trans Canada Highway. The approximate population of Brandon is 50,000.
BRANDON last hosted the Senior AAA Championships in 1977. Since then we have hosted the World Youth Championships in 1991 and 1994.
BRANDON is noted for being a great host center because of it's energetic volunteers. As well this summer BRANDON is hosting the Special Olympics in July.
