About the Host City

Located in the southwestern corner of Quebec, A two hour drive from Montreal and four hours from Toronto, the Outaouais region is one of three official gateways to the province. It's bounded by the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, the Laurentians, and Ottawa, Canada's capital. The Outaouais has a rich and vibrant history dating back nearly 8,000 years, to the first signs of Amerindian presence. In the days of European settlement and trade, its strategic geographical location made it an important crossroads for commercial and cultural exchange. French explorer Samuel de Champlain journeyed through the region in the early 1600s; some two centuries later, the first non-Aboriginal residents settled in the region and the local lumber industry began to develop. The Outaouais region is packed with experiences just waiting to be enjoyed!

Calling all great outdoors lovers: have we got a playground for you! With an area of 33,000 square kilometres, and encompassing 20,000 lakes, the Outaouais region is a great place to enjoy your favourite outdoor activities. Most popular are biking and cross-country skiing, especially in Gatineau Park. The region boasts an extensive network of cycling pathways connecting Canada's capital with the region's conservation park!
